SHAMELESS?

Now here’s something for you all to debate out there blog land. Since starting to write this blog once more I've tweaked the format of the home page as well as my attitude to writing here. One thing you may have noticed is the appearance of sponsored adverts on the right hand side of the page, click on it and cha ching. I have signed up to ad-sense with conflicting thoughts on this matter. On one hand I don’t feel that it’s in keeping with the spirit of what I'm trying to do here but on the other hand getting some income from my blog does have a certain appeal....your thoughts please.

It's a personal decision and I don't like to insert my opinion on such but since you asked....I don't like ads on blogs and have never once clicked on one and never will. It is tempting to do this but does it really generate enough monies to offset the change in feel and appearance ads brings to your blog?

I don't have anything against it, but I've never yet heard anyone say that it produced anything for them.

Same misgivings as you. I have it on mine and surprisingly (to me anyhow) have clocked up £45, but i do feel slightly guilty as it is not in keeping as you say. Oh well, I need the money so principles be damned.

I generally tune them out so they don't bother me. I've never clicked on them -- until today, when I clicked on all of yours, lol!

It appears as if opinion may well be divided here, which is what I expected in all honesty.
Yvonne...this is a point I wrestled with and there is some compromise here on the size and position of the ad & the affect it has on the blogs feel/appearance.
Mr. Smythe...To be honest I have no idea of the revenue generated on blogs such as mine,I guess that time will tell on that.
Frugal living...what was the time span for that generation of £45.00? and my final decision did come down to your sentiment of needing the money... desperately!!!
gpc...thank you ;-)

Hi John

I won't use the ads on my blog and won't click on them on other peoples, but I can understand folk wanting to make a few quid. I find the ads are not intrusive as you have them, some blogs and web pages are absolutely battered with them, that does put me off visiting such sites regardless of how good the content is.

Well that is hard to say John, because it started off very slowly, but there again, when I first added them I had only a handful of visitors. It has taken about 9 months, which is a very poor return and I was going to remove them, but as I can't get to any of the money until it reaches £60 I am not going to give up. When it reaches £60 and I get my grubby little hands on the money I will re-evaluate. I think most people don't really notice them and if i thought that it spoilt peoples enjoyment of the blog I would remove them immediately.
